Support guide

A few quick checks solve most issues.

Start with the section closest to what you’re experiencing. If the issue remains, send us an email and describe what happened.

01

Scanning and identification

  • Use a sharp, well-lit photo with the specimen filling most of the frame.
  • Check that camera or photo-library access is enabled in iOS Settings.
  • An internet connection is required while a scan is being identified.
  • Try another angle when a specimen has reflective, translucent, or mixed surfaces.
02

Pro and purchases

  • Make sure the App Store account used for purchase is active on the device.
  • Use Restore Purchases from the Pro screen after reinstalling or changing devices.
  • Subscriptions are managed through Apple ID settings, not directly inside the app.
  • Allow a moment for App Store subscription status to refresh after a purchase.
03

Collection and map

  • Add a mineral to Collection from its detail page, then set a custom price if desired.
  • Location access must be enabled before the app can save your current finding location.
  • You can search for and select a different location from the mineral detail page.
  • Only findings with a saved location appear on the Collection map.

Common questions

Answers, without the digging.

Can a photo guarantee an exact identification?+

No. Photo-based results are informed estimates. Similar minerals can require physical, optical, or laboratory testing for definitive identification. Do not rely on the app for safety-critical decisions or professional appraisal.

How is the estimated value calculated?+

The app provides an indicative range based on the likely mineral type and general specimen characteristics. Actual value can vary significantly with weight, quality, treatment, provenance, local demand, and professional grading.

Where are my collection and finding locations stored?+

Your scan history, collection, custom prices, saved scan images, and finding locations are stored locally on your device. They may also be included in your device backup depending on your Apple backup settings.

Why does a mineral not appear on my map?+

A mineral must be in your collection and have a saved finding location. Open its detail page, choose Location, and use your current position or search for a place manually.

How do I cancel or manage my subscription?+

Open iOS Settings, tap your Apple ID, choose Subscriptions, and select Rock Identifier & Gem Scanner. Billing and cancellation are managed securely by Apple.
